Gateway to Wales Autumn Golf Festival attracts 150 golfers
Gateway to Wales Golf held their second Autumn Golf Festival over the last weekend of September attracting over 150 entries to the three day event held at Padeswood & Buckley, Mold and Old Padeswood Golf Clubs.
The event supported by North Wales Tourism and Flintshire County Council Leisure & Tourism attracted golfers from all over the UK and even a couple from the USA.
“ As a voluntary group representing Flintshire Golf Clubs, we have been delighted with the response, 95% of the entries where visitors to the county who stayed locally providing a boost to local tourism” commented John Green of Gateway to Wales Golf
“We would particularly like to thank all those members of each of the golf clubs involved who worked so hard on the day to demonstrate the welcome and hospitality our visitors to Flintshire can enjoy. Unfortunately the weather was against us this year as we had to cancel the third day due to the waterlogged course at Old Padeswood. This was particularly disappointing for organizer Joyce Speed who had worked so hard on the organisation of this event.”
As a result the aggregate prize of £150 and the title “The Gateway to Wales Autumn Golf Festival 4BBB Champions 2019” sponsored by the “Beaufort Park Hotel & Conference Centre” was played for over two days and won by Terry Lawson and Tony Hill from Hollywood and Cocks Moor Woods Golf Clubs, Birmingham with 84 points.
Terry and Tony scored 40 points at Padeswood & Buckley in very wet conditions and 44 points at Mold Golf Club.
The Beaufort Park Hotel & Conference Centre also sponsored an Aggregate Mixed prize which was won by Roger and Mary Chester from Hessle Golf Club, East Yorkshire with 79 points.
Winners on the individual days, Padeswood & Buckley were Ben Askew and Andrew Schofield of Silverdale Golf Club, Carnforth with 44 points, second James Foley and Martin Jackson of Hollywood Golf Club with 41 points, third Keith Porter and Phil Mashiter of Silverdale with 40 points and fourth Terry Lawson and Tony Hill of Hollywood with 40 points.
Winners at Mold Golf club were J M Davis and C Marshall of Huyton & Prescott Golf Club with 45 points, second were Terry Lawson and Tony Hill of Hollywood with 44 points, third Robert Read and Mark Crump also of Hollywood GC with 43 points, fourth Sandra Owen and Julie Booth of Towneley GC also with 43 points.
Presenting the aggregate prizes Mr Mark Small of the Beaufort Park Hotel commented “ We are delighted to be involved with sponsoring this golf festival and look forward to supporting next year’s event”
Gateway to Wales Golf will be holding their Spring Golf Festival on the 23rd,24th and 25th May 2020 at Northop, Hawarden and Holywell Golf Clubs and their Autumn Golf Festival on the 25th,26th and 27th of September 2020 at Padeswood & Buckley, Mold and Old Padeswood Golf Courses.
